The Consulate-General of Nigeria in Guangzhou was established following mutual agreement between Nigeria and China in September 2013. The Consulate registered its presence in Guangzhou in March 2014 with the arrival of the Pioneer Consul-General and his team. The Consulate secured appropriate approval for setting up a Consulate in Guangzhou from the host Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangdong Province on 1st February, 2015.
The Pioneer Consul-General of Nigeria in Guangzhou was Ambassador Maduabuchi Cyril Anozie who served from 9th September, 2013 to 20th August, 2015. Amb. Maduabuchi was succeeded by Mr. Shakiru Adewale Oloko whose tenure lasted from 19th January, 2017 to 28th February, 2020. The Substantive Consul-General of the Consulate is Mr. Ahmed Shettima whose tour of duty commenced on 3rd October, 2020.
